Cousin Jack

Today I received some sad new.  My cousin Jack died.  This summer Katie and I got to see him when we were at my Mom and Dad's.  Below is a picture that Katie took of Jack.

Our prayers are with his family.  Jack was like a son to my dad and Jack's death has deeply affected him.

Rick's Wednesday Picture

My previous post was all about me and I totally forgot to post a Katie picture for Rick.  The only pictures that I took today were of my new haircut, so bare with me as I post another picture of myself, but this time with Kate.

New Do

Today I got my hair cut and highlighted.  After a lot of searching on the internet, I decided on an inverted bob that is slightly stacked in back.  My hair stylist does an amazing job. Her name is Robin and she is at Scissor Tales in Stamford.

Rick's Monday Picture: A Ballerina Princess

Today was a MOPS Monday. Our guest speaker was Kathy Wright. What an inspiration she was, not to mention her great sense of humor. By far she is the best speaker that we have had. I wonder if she teaches a bible study? I'd definitely sign up.

After MOPS, Katie and I ran a few errands. We stopped in the Wal-Mart by Southwest Drive and had lunch at that McDonald's. While there I found a Cinderella dress on clearance. Katie recently got a four pack of Disney Princess shoes from Rick. (Rick "brings" her home a gift when he returns from a business trip. The reason why I use quotes is that sometimes Rick is so busy, he doesn't have time to find a present for her, so I pick something up and slip it to him.) Anyway, today she was watching Barbie and the Twelve Dancing Princesses.  The Dancing Princesses are ballerinas and Katie loves all things ballet and ballerina related.  So, I found her spinning, twirling, walking on her tip toes and doing various ballet poses as the movie played.  Here's the evidence.

On that note, I wish you a pleasant evening and will "speak" with you later.

Bonus Picture For Rick

Just a quick, bonus post.  After Katie takes a bath, she likes to wrap herself in my big, fluffy, white robe and then snuggle down in our bed.  Tonight she decided to sport the robe in a different fashion--she put her legs in the sleeves.

I Had To Smile

Katie fouind a Disney Princess Makeup Vanity in a catalog and has decided that she needs it.  She has shown the picture to Rick and I numerous times and I have responded with, "You'll have to ask Santa."  Currently there is no room for another stuffed animal, let alone a piece of furniture in her room.  Hopefully by next Christmas, we will have whittled down some of the toys or she will no longer want the vanity.  Today Katie showed the vanity to me again and informed me that, "It will come in the mail.  It will be a big box.  We'll have to check the mail."  I had to smile at that one.

Also, this morning we were in Rick's bathroom, which is the guest bathroom, and she found Rick's mustache/beard brush.  She inquired as to what it was.  When I told her she ran the brush along her chin and said, "I don't have a beard, but when I get older I will have one.  It will come in the mail."  I had to smile at that one.

Rick left for Philly this morning.  In all of the years that I have been doing his reservations I have not made a mistake.  He just called me from the airport and I had booked him out tomorrow morning!  Because they know him at the airport and because of his Executive Platinum status with American, they didn't charge him a change fee.  It was not biggy to Rick but I felt badly.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you what happened last week.  During Christmas, I had found a picture of Vince from Shamwow!--you know the spaz-case on the commercial that says, "You know those Germans.  They make good stuff."  Well, Vince is a joke around here in this German household.  For example, one of the presents that we gave to Rick's dad was a Shamwow!  So trying to be funny, I found a small picture of Vince, clipped it out and taped it to the front of Rick's driver's license over his own picture.  I thought he would find it before he traveled and of course he didn't and of course I totally forgot about it and of course off he goes to Philly last Sunday.  They don't ask Rick for his I.D. at the counter because of how much he travels, so the first time he shows it is when he goes through security.  Rut roh!  Rick calls me from the airport and I ask him how he is.  He replies, "Pretty good considering I spent the last 1 1/2 in a TSA holding cell for falsified documents."  I was dead silent, but finally managed a, "Oh, no" as I recalled the Vince altered driver's license.  He started to laugh and told me the true story.  When he handed his I.D. to the TSA person, she looked at it and called out to her co-worker, "This doesn't look like him does it?"  Both TSA's were laughing and showed Rick his license.  Again, thank goodness they know Rick or it could have been trouble.  As a side note Rick had also called his mom and dad and gave them the same holding cell story.  They were very upset and his mom immediately confessed to my joke since she was there when I did it.  All ended well.  I got my prank in, Rick got me back and I had to smile.

I just spent the last few minutes trying to figure out why my pictures won't download from my camera.  Yes, the obvious was wrong.  The camera was not plugged into the cable.  So now that I got that highly technical issue fixed, below is Rick's Sunday picture.  I took it yesterday, when Katie had just gotten up from her nap.

We have a busy week ahead.  Monday is MOPS.  Tuesday is Kindermusik.  Wednesday I get my hair cut.  I also promised Katie if it is nice, I will take her to the Abilene Zoo.  I'll have to slate that for Thursday, since I will be cleaning and doing laundry on Friday.  Like I have previously wrote, I like the house to be clean when Rick comes home.  From my many years of travel, I have learned that nothing is worse than coming home to a dirty, scattered house.  So, ciao for now.

Watching Mouths and Lips

When Katie gets mouthy or disrespectful, we advise her to watch her mouth.  Well, today on our way out to Wal-Mart, Katie would not strap herself into her car seat.  I finally had to raise my voice--something that I have been trying not to do--and remind her that she had to sit in her seat for safety.  She responded by reprimanding me in a very loud voice, "Watch your mouth!"  Reprimand noted and taken.

The other day I used Crayola's website to turn photographs into coloring pictures.  One photo that I used was of Katie and Santa.  Katie was sitting at her little table, which is currently in our bedroom and then got up from the table, dashed into the bathroom and closed the door behind her.  I asked her what she was up to since she seems to get into trouble when she is alone in the master bath.  She opened the door and said, "I was checking out my lips."  (She had closed the door because the full length mirror is on the wall behind the door.)  She wanted to make sure she used the correct color for her lips on the coloring page.  She dashed into the bathroom a few more times to check herself out and then would come back and color her feature in question.

Neither story is particularly funny now that it is down in print, but both made me smile.  After all, it's all about smiling and finding the happiness in every day events.
